Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has beaten his teammate at all of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the closing stages of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the points lead from Piastri by a single point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, topped the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Before then, Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before the sprint shootout set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind behind Norris, ended up in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, though minor, when he lost control at corner four during the early running.
The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before spinning across the gravel trap, and was blessed to get away with just a minor contact of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the conclusion of the session, rotating twice through the quick descending Mergulho corner approaching the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car P3, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
